TWISTING BORDERS 2025
Seven Icons - Five Regions - One Epic Roadtrip

The Line-up
It’s a scene any enthusiast would dream of: seven Porsche 911s idling in the early morning light. Three air-cooled G-Models, three charismatic 964s, and one timeless 993 — each with its own voice, yet all united by that unmistakable flat-six heartbeat.
The plan? A multi-day journey that would take us through five regions and four countries, tracing both legendary race tracks and quiet country roads, from the Black Forest to the Champagne.

Stage 1 – Stuttgart to Freiburg via the Black Forest and Schauinsland

Leaving Stuttgart, we dove straight into the Black Forest. The road tightened into flowing corners, pine trees towering over us, the morning air crisp. The highlight came quickly: the historic Schauinsland hillclimb route, once a proving ground for racers. Each 911 attacked the climb with a different personality — the G-Models agile and raw, the 964s precise yet playful, the 993 blending refinement with speed.

Stage 2 – Freiburg to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges via the Vosges Mountains

Grand Ballon and Col de la Schlucht were pure driving joy, the convoy carving its way along ridgelines, clouds drifting below us. At each summit, the cars cooled under the mountain breeze while we took in views that stretched for miles. We reached Saint-Dié-des-Vosges by evening, the group gathering over dinner to replay the day’s best overtakes and closest corner calls. In the evening we were spoiled with fantastic food at the Restaurant Le Regal. (www.hotel-le-regal.fr).

Stage 3 – Saint-Dié-des-Vosges to Saarbrücken via Alsace

The next morning’s run through Alsace was a blend of history and scenery. The Route des Vins twisted through villages of timber-framed houses and endless vineyards. Locals waved and camera phones clicked as our seven-car formation rumbled through cobblestone streets. By late afternoon, we crossed into Germany again, ending the day in Saarbrücken — a city mixing French charm and German precision.

Stage 4 – Saarbrücken to the Belgian Ardennes via Luxembourg

This stage was about fast roads and open landscapes. Luxembourg’s smooth tarmac was a treat, and the 911s stretched their legs. The Ardennes brought a different vibe — rolling green hills, small rivers, and the scent of wet leaves. Here, the G-Models seemed perfectly at home, their mechanical purity matching the winding country lanes.

Stage 5 – Belgian Ardennes to Reims

Belgium gave way to northern France and wide-open roads. By the time we approached Reims, the anticipation was high: the historic Reims-Gueux circuit awaited. We rolled slowly along the preserved pit buildings and grandstands, imagining the roar of 1960s Formula 1 engines. A quick photo stop turned into half an hour of soaking in the motorsport history beneath our feet.

Stage 6 – Reims to Épernay via Champagne

The Champagne region unfolded in gentle hills and golden fields. We cruised at a relaxed pace, the morning sun glinting off polished bodywork. Lunch stop in Avize at Les Avises offered a 3 course lunch menu, you shouldn't miss (www.selosse-leavises.com). In Épernay, we parked along the famous Avenue de Champagne before heading underground for a cellar tour (www.boizel.com) — trading the sound of engines for the cool silence of chalk tunnels and the pop of champagne corks.

Stage 7 – Épernay to Troyes

The final leg to Troyes was bittersweet, but before hitting the road we had a final bottle of Champagne at the lighthouse in Verzenay (www.phare-verzenay.com). The route offered one last series of rural backroads, the convoy moving in perfect rhythm. Pulling into Troyes, with its medieval half-timbered streets. The trip had been more than just a drive — it was a moving celebration of automotive heritage, friendship, and the simple joy of being on the road.

Epilogue
By journey’s end, the odometers showed more than 3000 kilometers, but the real measure was in the memories: the echo of flat-sixes bouncing off mountain walls, the sight of seven 911s in perfect formation, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing we had traced a route as timeless as the cars themselves.
